History

The We-Are-Aware website started life as an online portal for the supporters of the “Old Guard” EXCO in the run-up to the May 2009 EGM. Run by the same group that had petitioned for a vote of no-confidence in the recently elected EXCO, the site became a centre for disseminating information about the upcoming Extraordinary General meeting, collecting blog posts and articles, and reaching out to supporters.

With the EGM over, what is the purpose of We-Are-Aware?

Many women and men came together under the banner of We-Are-Aware to fight for something they believed in whether it was the fate of a women’s organisation, the importance of ground rules in a secular society or protection of a world view.

But something even more amazing came out of the EGM. People found a voice and they realised that what they said mattered. We want to keep those voices alive and build a place where they can be heard loud and strong.

So what is the relationship between AWARE and We-Are-Aware?

We-Are-Aware.sg is a website maintained by AWARE volunteers to encourage the sharing of views on topics that are of interest to its community. Participation is open to AWARE members and non-members on the principles of trust, respect and choice. The views on We-Are-Aware do not represent the official view of AWARE except where expressly stated.

In the wake of the EGM and the victory of the “Old Guard.” the We-Are-Aware website underwent transformation. No longer a command centre for a crisis, it has become a site based on community outreach.
