Want to help AWARE? Get tickets for the “Top Girls” Fundraiser on 30th May!
The dust has settled and the excitement over the EGM has subsided. Now it’s time to move forward! If you are wondering how you can further contribute to Aware’s cause, here’s something you might be able to help with.
AWARE has a fundraiser tied to the staging of Top Girls, an award-winning play by Caryl Churchill, which runs from the 27th to the 30th of May! Tickets are $40 for adults and $25 for students for the 27th to the 29th of May. The 30th May performance is a special Gala Night dinner with tickets going at $80, inclusive of an invite to a reception sponsored by Harry’s and WineGuru. All proceeds for the Gala Night will be donated to AWARE. Publicity for this event has been overshadowed by the recent furore so we really need your help in getting the word out!
What is “Top Girls” about?
Top Girls centers on Marlene, a woman working in Britain in the 1980s. It opens with a surreal dinner party thrown by Marlene, featuring five mythical & literary women spanning different cultures & eras. As the play progresses and follows Marlene through her daily trials and tribulations as managing director of the Top Girls Employment Agency, we come face to face with the choices and sacrifices she has had to make. A celebration of the extraordinary struggles of ordinary women, this Caryl Churchill play is among the best 100 plays of the 20th Century on the British National Theatre’s Millennium list, winning the Obie Award in 1983. The Wessex Theatre production is directed by Daniel Toyne, and has a seven member all woman cast playing 16 roles in all! The play has some coarse language but promises an evening of heart-warming truths and laughter.
What will the funds raised be used for?
The funds raised through sponsorship, donations and sale of tickets will enable AWARE to continue its work – Direct Services; Educational Programmes; and Research.
